EQUIP2/ Malawi Decentralization Support Activity (EDSA)

The USAID-funded EQUIP2/Malawi Education Decentralization Support Activity (EDSA) is supporting the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology's (MoEST) implementation of the National Education Sector Plan (NESP), with an emphasis on decentralization at the central, district, and school levels. Launched by the MoEST in 2008 to support Malawi's human education sector human resource development, the NESP's goals are to: 1) expand equitable access to education, 2) improve education quality and relevance to reduce drop-out and repetition and promote effective learning, and 3) improve education system governance and management to more effectively deliver services. EQUIP2/EDSA will work with the MoEST to strengthen the Ministry's policy and systems; support implementation of decentralization policy, management, and planning processes in six districts; and implement school improvement planning in schools in these same districts.
