EQUIP2/Pakistan Pre-Service Teacher Education Program (Pre-STEP)

Through technical assistance to the Higher Education Commission, the Higher Institutes of Teacher Training and the Government Colleges of Elementary Training Pre-STEP will help new teachers to improve teaching practices.  There are 3 main objectives: AED will help the Government of Pakistan and other stakeholders develop a national policy framework for teacher education and professional development; By providing technical assistance and other support to government and university/college personnel Pre-STEP will strengthen the institutions of pre-service teacher education; Pre-STEP will also create new financial incentives (scholarships) for teacher education that will encourage entry into the teaching profession and address chronic deficits in the teaching service.
