IDEJEN is working with various stakeholder organizations to develop a strategy for making the project a sustainable national-level program. This will be achieved largely through collaborating with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as other leading actors, to discuss the strategy and answer several key questions related to going to scale.
Ministry of Youth and Sports
IDEJEN is working with Haiti’s Ministry of Youth and Sports to:
- Carry out joint recreational and cultural activities for youth;
- Develop a National Youth Policy;
- Organize department-level youth forums;
- Expand the use of the Key Elements for Youth Programming (a best-practices guide for youth-serving organizations and educators) to the district levels; and
- Establish a youth leadership program in partnership with the YouthActionNet™ / International Youth Foundation
Ministry of Education and Professional Training
Since the beginning of the project, IDEJEN has worked with the Ministry of Education and Professional Training to develop a nonformal basic education program adapted to the needs of out-of-school youth. Most recently, IDEJEN has been working with the Ministry to finalize and implement a national strategy for nonformal basic education targeted to youth over 15 years old.
National Technical and Vocational Training Institute (INFP)
IDEJEN has been working with The Ministry of Education and Professional Training, through its National Technical and Vocational Training Institute (INFP), to develop pedagogical material for nonformal and vocational education at the departmental and lower levels. This will help ensure that IDEJEN’s Youth Centers become recognized as mid-level technical or vocational training schools, thereby contributing to their overall sustainability.
Specifically, IDEJEN is working with the INFP to:
- build their capacity to analyze the labor market needs;
- develop an array of demand-driven vocational training curricula targeted to the IDEJEN youth;
- train new technical educators and supervise the technical training provided by the Youth Training Centers; and
- establish an accreditation and licensing system for the CBOs providing base-level certification in vocational training.
