| Zambia: Improving Information and Strengthening Policy Implementation
The Zambian Ministry of Education is committed to expanding basic education to its entire population. A high rate of poverty, difficulty providing service to and accessing information from remote and disadvantaged areas, and a poor technical infrastructure have limited the Ministry's ability to respond to educational needs at the community level. To overcome these obstacles, AED is working with its partners to support the Zambia Education Management Information System (EMIS) and provide the Ministry of Education with the technical and strategic planning tools need to put an efficient and comprehensive education management system in place.
The goals of this project are to:
Cascade strength through all levels of the system, from the Ministry of Education's headquarters through provincial and district offices to schools;
Follow interventions from the center to the grass roots; and
Support policy implementation and improve information management in ways that foster and monitor increased educational relevance and pupil achievement.
EMIS: Improving Information and Strengthening Policy Implementation The Zambia Associate Award supports the extension of EMIS to improve information and strengthen policy implementation through enhanced monitoring at multiple levels, from the district up. The overall strategy is implemented through six activity areas:
