| Improving the Quality of Learning in Zanzibar (MKEZA)
Tanzania
Inside MKEZA
The MKEZA project reaches almost all sectors of the education system, from pre-school through secondary school, using a variety of methods, such as training teachers, supporting community initiatives, and equipping classrooms. MKEZA works with communities, local civil society organizations, as well as the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports (MOECS) on the two main islands of Zanzibar to not only improve the quality of learning for all but to increase access for disabled and disadvantaged populations. MKEZA aims to enhance classroom delivery and teacher skills, especially related to math, science, and English. Specifically the program will support the improvement of instruction in secondary school, and improve the quality of learning in primary schools so that students come adequately prepared to learn at the secondary level. These activities will focus particularly on those with disabilities that may keep them from being included in school and search for ways that encourage and support girls’ education. In addition, MKEZA’s far reaching initiatives, will increase the network of support, resources, and accountability within the Zanzibar education system.
