EQ Review

EQ Review is a newsletter published by USAID’s EQUIP1 to share knowledge about issues fundamental to improving educational quality and to communicate the successes, challenges, & lessons learned by USAID Missions. See the main EQ Review page for a complete listing.

  • Youth Service Learning Vol. 6, No. 1. March 2008
The Youth Service Learning issue discusses how the Ruwwad Project of West Bank and Gaza, the City Year South Africa Program, the Enter Jovem Program of Brazil and the Weaving the Safety Net Program of Kenya create service opportunities for youth. The projects help youth develop marketable skills and civil leadership abilities and provide them with academic and psychosocial support.

  • Educating Marginalized Populations Vol. 4, No. 5. January 2007
EQ review’s issue on Educating Marginalized Populations focuses on programs that empower specific marginalized populations including the PATHWAYS project of Guinea, the USAID/Global Deaf Connection joint project for the Deaf in Kenya, the USAID-funded EQUIP3 Literacy and Community Empowerment Project (LCEP) of Afghanistan and USAID/Guatemala’s Youth Alliance Program. The projects show how targeted programming designed for a specific marginalized population allows its members to improve their lives.

  •  Youth Assessments Vol. 4, No. 3. June 2006
The Youth Assessments issue of EQ review is about how youth can positively impact community development if adequately prepared for their roles in the labor force, family life and civil society. According to this issue, for a youth assessment to be effective, it must be responsive, rapid, cross-cutting, appreciative analytical, pragmatic, efficient and youth participation driven.

  • Youth Participation Vol. 4, No. 1. January 2006
The EQ review issue on Youth Participation in Development Projects acknowledges that thousands of young people around the world are spearheading positive social change; explains how youth become assets to development when they are positively empowered to be active citizens; and stresses the importance of engaging young people in programs designed to benefit them.
