Learning and Knowledge Generation

Program Guides

EQUIP3 has produced several Program Guides to help development planners design, implement, and evaluate effective programs for out-of-school youth. Users of these materials will learn how to establish objectives, identify target audiences, select appropriate policy and program interventions, develop capacity-building activities for implementing organizations, and monitor and evaluate program impact. The Program Guides draw on the experience of EQUIP3 and others, and include the following:

Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned documents outline the array of lessons learned and recommendations made from EQUIP3 Associate Awards. Recording these lessons is important for guiding the field of youth development forward and for providing both current and future youth-development projects with helpful tools and insights for successful outcomes. EQUIP3 is developing Lessons Learned documents from the following projects:

  • Haitian Out-of-School Youth Livelihood Initiative (IDEJEN): Haiti
  • Literacy and Community Empowerment Program (LCEP): Afghanistan
  • Education For All (EFA) Youth Challenge Grant Program: Jamaica, Uganda, and South Africa

Applied Research

The EQUIP3 Leader Award sponsors Applied Research activities. These activities draw out additional insights from the experience of Associate Award projects. Research efforts include ongoing data collection, data analysis, and a final report detailing the findings. Currently, Applied Research studies are taking place in Haiti, in relation to Haitian Out-of-School Youth Livelihood Initiative (IDEJEN). Research is focused on following IDEJEN participants over the course of 18 months to document the outcomes and impact of their participation in the program.

The current Haiti study has conducted two rounds of data collection and analysis and is scheduled to conduct a third and final round. Once this is completed, an analysis of the changes in participant knowledge, attitudes, and behavior over time will be conducted. Specific findings and recommendations will be developed and compiled in a final report.
