Objective 1: Support the improvement of instruction and learning in secondary schools
Secondary school students in Zanzibar have experienced low examination scores in mathematics, the sciences and English. Three factors that contribute to the poor results include the following:
- poorly equipped laboratories;
- low levels of use and confidence in English, the medium of instruction in secondary schools, by teachers, particularly in mathematics the sciences, English and civics; and
- inadequate number of resource materials for teachers and textbooks for students.
MKEZA aims to support the improvement of instruction in secondary schools by implementing activities that are clustered in three areas: a) equipping classrooms, b) supporting teachers to improve their English competence and teaching skills, and c) strengthening secondary school management.
