Education for Disabilities
Objective 3: Provide support to those with disabilities to ensure a quality education Photo of a group of children in uniform sitting on the grass.

Learners with special education needs are currently not fully integrated in schools, although a few of the Aga Khan Foundation-supported community pre-schools are more inclusive. Support to children with disabilities is an important theme in the MKEZA project, as such, disability issues are mainstreamed in all project activities.

Each of the MKEZA projects has incorporated strategies to promote inclusion and appropriate learning environments for all children. The core team coordinates these efforts, with Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation, which provides the technical inputs in interventions for children with disabilities. In addition, the core team is working with MOECS, program partners and other local NGOs to develop strategic plans of action for addressing education needs for children with physical and cognitive disabilities.

MKEZA will continue to promote activities that will identify major challenges faced by children with disabilities; work closely with MOECS to pilot test activities to better address challenges faced by children with disabilities; make recommendations to improve current practices; and sensitize policy makers to better plan and implement inclusive education interventions.
