Problem: Special problems prevent some children from attending or succeeding at school

Activity: Schools identify children at risk (e.g., disabled, slow learners, minority children) and provide special assistance (helper friends, walk ramps, wheelchairs, remedial assistance at home, pen pals) to learn at school.

Resources Needed:
  • Surveyors
  • Small grants to meet children's special needs
  • Teacher training - $2.50 per day per person x 2 days
  • Workshop materials - $20 per workshop
  • School grants - $20 per school

Village-Based Remedial Support for Slow Learners

Activity: Schools provide children who fail the first term opportunities to study with a teacher in their village so they receive special help in learning

Resources Needed:
  • Teacher trainers - $2.50 per day per trainer x 2 days
  • Training materials - $25 per group
  • Materials for classes
  • Remuneration for teachers - $0.50/hour per teacher x 4 hours/week x 16 weeks
  • Site set-up - $15/site

Home-Based Remedial Support for Slow Learners
