Problem: Stakeholders are not familiar with planning methodologies that are logical and needs-based.

Activity: Stakeholders that include representatives from among school directors, teachers, and community members join together to develop a school improvement plan. Technical support for this activity includes helping stakeholders to understand concepts of child friendliness as well as doing a problem analysis of their local context and determining appropriate activities to address the problems identified using an Activity Menu.


Resources Needed:
  • Stationery: problem and activity cards, poster paper, tape, marker pens
  • Selected handouts explaining technical aspects of planning
  • Travel and per diem costs for participants to attend planning sessions.
  • Photocopy costs for dissemination of the plan

School Self-Assessment

Problem: Schools do not know how to use assessments to facilitate improvements in local educational practices

Activity: Clusters select one or more of their best schools and conduct an honest and critical self-assessment of performance to improve local educational practices across all Child Friendly School (CFS) dimensions.


Resources Needed:
  • Travel costs for visits to designated schools
  • Travel costs for meetings to tabulate and discuss assessment data

Data Collection for Reporting

Problem: Schools do not know how to analyze school efficiency performance indicators

Activity: Clusters collect and analyze data on terminal indicators (e.g., repetition and dropout) using standard data collection forms. Clusters disseminate the data to all member schools and district offices of education.

Local Cluster School Committee (LCSC) Administrative Support

Problem: Travel costs depress attendance at cluster meetings

Activity: Cluster school committees provide funds for travel to committee members in order to ensure attendance of monthly meetings and other cluster functions.
