Activity: Schools build wells and toilets to reinforce hygienic habits.


Resources Needed: Approximately $200 per toilet and $200 per well

Physical Rehabilitation for Disabled Children / Children with Health Problems

Problem: Disabilities prevent some children from attending school

Activity: Local surveys identify children with disabilities or chronic illnesses and bring them to service providers for rehabilitation.

Resources Needed (provided through ESCUP central budget):
  • Surveyors
  • Travel money to bring children to services

First Aid Kits

Activity: Schools provide first aid kits in classrooms to meet special health problems that occur at schools.

  • Materials for first aid / Medical supplies - $25 per kit

School Breakfast Program

Problem: Children are hungry and malnourished

Activity: With World Food Program (WFP) approval, local community committees prepare and administer breakfast to all children at rural schools.

Resources Needed:
  • Kitchen materials - $125 per set
  • Community training - $2.50 per day per person for 1 day
  • Cooks
  • Rice/Fish from World Food Program

Problem: Schools lack equipment that foster exercise and play

Activity: Schools construct playgrounds, usually in a shaded area, in order to provide children with opportunities for physical exercise as well as emotional enjoyment.
