Welcome to ERP Eygpt

The Education Reform Program (ERP) responds to the Government of Egypt's priority to revitalize the quality of the education system by establishing policies and strengthening institutional capacities for sustainable and adaptable models of reform. ERP works in seven Governorates to strengthen community participation in education, develop a culture of professional development for educators, implement national standards in learning and prepare individuals for the work force.

ERP functions at two levels:
1. EQUIP1 focuses on the delivery and strengthening of a broad range of educational services in schools and communities.
2. EQUIP2 focuses on policy and system improvement.

ERP's strategic objective is to develop sustainable approaches to decentralize education in order to strengthen local decision-making and management, increase quality of learning outcomes in both formal and non-formal education environments and prepare Egyptians to enter the work force.

Project Activities

  • A girls' scholarship program implemented by NGOs and community organizations with the goal of having communities assume responsibility for similar activities to support eligible girls to attend and complete schooling. Approximately 125,000 scholarships will be provided throughout the life of the project.

  • Boards of Trustees elected to bring school governance to the community. The Governor issues a decree to form a Board and hold an election. Community elections are typically held at the school (approximately 500 people may participate). A parent heads the Board and parents and community members work with school officials and teachers to make decisions leading to educational improvement.

  • Implement national standards on community participation and "effective schools" that were developed through a broad stakeholder process. The trainers and implementers of the standards will be local educators.
